Manuscript signature of Le Directeur des Brevets de Présence. dated 1871 with blank space for recipient's name and date. Parchment like paper in excellent condition. 250mm x 360mm
NOTE: The Siege of Paris lasted until 28 January 1872 and brought about the defeat of the French in the Franco-Prussian War which ultimately led to the establishment of the German Empire.

Remainder of text in manuscript stating: Les Citozens (a term by which the aristocracy was referred to during the French Revolution) Butin and Bigos ont conduit au comité . . . la dame Eliot, et y ont déposé un payment à l'adresse de Charles James Fox. La dame Eliot a été introgée, le payment a été ouvert et on a reconnûqu'il ne conenait rien de suspect. two signatures of Les members du comité de sureté générale and on left separate Eliot. Appears to be the vindication of Lady Eliot brought before the securities committee for addressing a package to Charles James Fox and finding nothing suspicious in the package. Very light foxing, single sheet 205mm x 322mm generally excellent condition. Interesting England linked French Revolution manuscript document.
NOTE:Charles James Fox (1749-1806) prominent British Whig statesman and a staunch opponent of George III, whom he regarded as an aspiring tyrant; Fox supported the American revolutionaries. He spent entirety of his political career in opposition and became noted as an anti-slavery campaigner, a supporter of the French Revolution, and a leading parliamentary advocate of religious tolerance and individual liberty.

NOTE: The Edinburgh Courant, one of the country's first regional papers, began circulation in February 1705 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland as a 1 penny broadsheet newspaper twice weekly until 1710. From 1710 until 1720 it was published as the Scots Courant and as the Edinburgh Evening Courant until 1873, when the Evening News saw the light of day. The author Daniel Defoe and the naval historian James Hannay were Editors, in the early 18th century and between 1860 and1864, respectively.
