The four sheet maps of the City of Dublin map published in 1756, at a scale of 26" to 1 mile, and of the County published in 1760, at a scale of 2" to 1 mile, are reproduced as 32 two-page spreads in an A4 book. The reproduction maps are supported by an introduction by J. F. Andrews, sometime professor of Geography at Trinity College Dublin. The publication is edited by Paul Ferguson, Map Librarian of Trinity College Dublin, who also prepared separate place number indexes for the two maps. Also included are Key Plans for the two maps.

02809. A to Z of Restoration London (Ogilby 1676)

The atlas section of this volume contains the 20 sheets from John Ogilby and William Morgan's large scale survey of the City of London, drawn to a scale of 52 3/4" to 1 mile are presented as 40 two-page spreads at full scale. The survey was first published in 1676, ten years after the Great Fire, and shows the City as newly rebuilt. This survey, encouraged by Charles II and financially backed by the Corporation of London would be 'the Glory and Masterpiece of the whole Undertaking' to produce volumes of county maps and town plans under the title Britannia, the first of which was published by Ogilby in 1675. Also included in this volume is an excellent introduction by Ralph Hyde and a key map. The index section which includes almost 2,000 items, is based on Ogilby and Morgan's Explanation, published in 1677, but has been considerably improved. It will enable users to find any street of the time and the majority of lanes, courts, alleys, yards, passages and quays, as well as many important public building. Introduction by John Fisher Assistant Keeper of Prints and Maps at the Guildhall Library. This edition published by Harry Margary, Kent in association with Guildhall Library, London 1981. 21 pages. The volume contains true and exact facsimiles of the most important printed maps of London published before 1667. With the exception of the Braun and Hogenberg's map, all are exceedingly rare. Two of the maps are incomplete and known as the 'Copperplate Map' of c1553-9 and the 'Great Map' of London by Wenceslaus Holler c1658. With a three page illustrated introduction and bibliography. The maps included in this collection are:
