Jan Jansson from Orbis Antiquis Published 1644. Single of seven-sheet map later published by George Hornius in Situs Terrae Promisionis in 1741. This sheet showing Tribus Naptalim, Zabulon and Isachar with the sea of Galilee central to the map. Highly decorative enlivened with quaint, detailed vignettes of biblical incidents. Framed. Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677) IERUSALEM early first edition of 1660 dated (later 1689 edition was published in Draper’s travelogue to the Holyland). Now exceedingly rare and important large representation of early Jerusalem from a bird's eye view. Inset of Jerusalem plan according to Josephus and a key to sights and places of historic and biblical interest. Hollar’s name appears several time on surface of the print. Stunning and attractive 1135mm x 440mm uncoloured except for a red border usual prominent folds good clean copy. lm1

Iuda et Isarel . . . 1724 copper engraving in full original colour covering the Holyland with inset map and vignette of Terra Canaan. Attractive large title cartouche with Moses receiving the Commandments on Mount Sinai. Good margins lightly soiled at centre fold generally in excellent condition without faults. 600mm x 520mm
NOTE: J B Homann was born in Oberkammlach, Schwabia (Germany) flourished from early 1690s establishing his own firm in 1702. In 1707 he published his first Atlas. He was Geographer to the Holy Roman Emperor and member of the Prussian Royal Academy of Sciences. Homann Heirs took over the firm from c1730.
