England published by the Navarre Society printed by Carta Mundi Belgium thgis pack distributed in US by US Games Systems the Pickwick Playing Cards complete pack of 55 playing cards. Open pack no box or leaflet but excellent condition. Originals by J. Clayton Clark, nicknamed "Kyd". Collection of characters from Dickens' classic, the Pickwick Papers. Each court card has a different portrait of one of the major characters and the pips include small drawings of the characters, including Dr. Slammer, Dismal Jimmy and Raphael Wardle.
Note: Joseph Clayton Clark was born in 1856, and worked as a freelance artist and cartoonist until 1900. From there until 1920 he became a specialist in Dickens drawings. He died in 1937, at the age of 80.
