08313. Canonbury Tower - Islington 1890 Leath/Smith Canonbury Tower - Islington. 132mm x 214mm. Good margins steel engraved print lightly soiled generally very good condition. NOTE: The Canonbury Tower dates its origins to 1509 built with the present tower by Prior Bolton of St Bartholomew. In the 16th Century it was occupied by such Royal Court dignitaries as the Earl of Essex, John Dudley and afterwards by the Duke of Northumberland and others until acquired by John Spencer, Lord Mayor of London in 1570. In 1610 the Tower was passed on to the Northampton family, with whom it has remained ever since. Lord Northampton was Pro Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England until 2010. Published in Meyer's Lexicon Germany v1900 black and white engraving with wide margins German title. Good clean condition. 244mm x 152mm. NOTE: The sea cave is situated on the tiny uninhabited island of Staffa off the west coast of Scotland, near Mull and Iona.
