Germany, Tubingen 'Wallenstein' Transformation cards by J C Cotta published 1807 designed by Christian Wilhelm von Faber du Four. Copper plate engraved complete original 52 card. One of a series of the 'Karten Almanachs' began in 1804. The twelve court cards in this pack are characters from Schiller's play 'Wallenstein': The King of spades represents General Christian van Ilow and the Queen of Spades Countess Terzky, as two instances. The Jack of Clubs is the English captain Devereux. The pip cards have been quaintly and cleverly transformed and are unrelated to the 'Wallenstein' theme. A facsimile was produced by George Olms Verlag in 1970. The condition of this pack is lightly soiled and used, otherwise in good condition intact without tears or damage.
