Laurie & Whittle - D'Anville, Jean Baptiste Bourguignon (1697-1782) 'A New Map of Turkey in Asia by Monsr. D'Anville, First Geographer to the Most Christian King with Several Additions' London 12th May 1794. Large double folio map 780mm x 590mm of modern Turkey with neighbouring nations to the East include Armenia, Kurdistan, Irak (sic), bordering on Persia. Cyprus prominent and detailed as is 'Palestina' and 'Sham or Syria' extending South to the 'Mouth of the Nile'. Full original colour very lightly soiled along margins otherwise excellent condition.

Usual prominent cetral fold lightly soiled very good condition. Steel engraved vignettes include Constantinople, Sebastopol, Odesa etc. Map centres on the Black Sea and Crimea. 355mm x 273mm

NOTE: John Tallis and Company published views, maps and Atlases in London from 1838 to 1851. They expanded on the earlier works of Cary and Arrowsmith. John Rapkin was the principle engraver. The London Printing and publishing Company of London and New York bought the rights for many Tallis maps in 1850 and continued Publishing his Illustrated Atlas of the World until the mid 1850s.
