Unidentified Anon 'Map of The World' Double Hemispheres c1700 with original outline colour and primitive in execution with very minimal information only of the Seas and Continents and 'Lucanes or Bahama Islands' in the Western Hemisphere and Barbary, Cape of Good Hope, Arabia, Persia and China in the East. Top left margin marked 'Plate 7 Vol IV pag 171' indicating a multi volume travel book or Gentlemen's Magazine style publication. Early 18th century. Folds otherwise excellent clean condition. Interesting small and important collectors' item 280mm x 165mm.

4778. Faden - E & W Hemispheres Pair 1802

Faden, W (1749-1836) 'Eastern Hemisphere' and 'Western Hemisphere' Two large double folio 795cm x 595cm maps as a pair dated May 1st 1802 engraved by Benjamin Baker (fl1780-1824). Published in William Faden's 'General Atlas of Modern Geography'. Original hand colour steel engraved maps. Eastern Hemisphere close cropped at top and bottom with light soiling at the base. Map incorporates the whole African continent, Europe, Asia and Australia with undiscovered sections of 'New Holland. South pole shown as 'Ant antic Icy Sea'. Western Hemisphere close cropped at top in excellent clean and undamaged condition incorporates South Pacific and Polynesian Islands and New Zealand with The Americas prominent and central. Incomplete undiscovered Northern territory approaching the 'Arctic Icy Sea'. Açores and Cape Verde Islands included in the Eastern most section. Important attractive PAIR.
