At base manuscript signatures and seals superimposed on tax stamp depicting the Sultan's Tughra. Reverse two tax stamps with signed endorsements in manuscript. Philatelic stamps for 20 Para depict the Tuhgra of the Sultan Abdul Hamid II dating the document to c1878 Large document with extensive margins. The Blaeu family were the leading map-makers and atlas publishers of the 17th century and their output is invariably of the highest quality. The main titlepage to Part I of their Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Theatre of the Whole World; first published in 1635) is a detailed one, with personifications of the continents flanking the title (Asia and Europe to the left; America and Africa to the right); at the top under the Hebrew lettering for Jehovah the goddness Juno spurts milk from her breast to form the Milky Way, and she is paired with the sun-god Apollo and his lyre. Savants provide instruction using celestial and terrestrial globes, and other figures represent earth, air, fire and water. Contemporary colour with gilt illumination. Excellent condition 300mm x 497mm.

Attractive large title cartouche with Moses receiving the Commandments on Mount Sinai. Good margins lightly soiled at centre fold generally in excellent condition without faults. 600mm x 520mm NOTE: J B Homann was born in Oberkammlach, Schwabia (Germany) flourished from early 1690s establishing his own firm in 1702. In 1707 he published his first Atlas. He was Geographer to the Holy Roman Emperor and member of the Prussian Royal Academy of Sciences. Homann Heirs took over the firm from c1730.
